Does anyone have information about John Bear and who his children are? I came across some information, from Pipestone Boarding school that there is a relation between the Kampeska name and Bear name. He was married to Ida Renville, and I believe she also married a Taylor, so she also went by Ida Taylor. Pidamaya, Charlotte

No luck either looking at the Gabrielle Renville Tree. I also looked at victor Renville's tree and there weren't descendants named Ida Renville. Was this her maiden name?

The John Bear you are referring to is found in the 1891 sisseton elrod roll.
Also the 1889 allotment roll sheet two you will find him as a son of Kampeska age 62 with wife Mazatopawin age 41. brother Caske or Daniel Kampeska 21 another son I cant make out the name of He kta un na age 13, and then Mato iyotanke na age 18. This is where he gets the name mato. English name John Kampeska.
In searching for my ancestor John Bear, I always keep and eye out for him to keep things straight. I do not understand where he could ever be called Mato Ite Wakan although I did see the name in an obituary of one of his descendants.
In the same roll there is also a George Bear or Mato age 31 with children age 5, Martha, and Moses age 2.
Also Sheet 12 #294 Mato wan yan ka ?? age 32 with child Marpiyalutawin crossed out age 10 and Sampson age 3

Wow, you people are unbelievable, I can't thank you enough. I appreciate this so much. I don't have enough information to give. All I know so far is what you are telling me. I do have my Great-Grandmothers (Alice KampesKa or Bear) school records from Pipestone and I also have (Wnifield KampesKa or Bear), and in the records it states that they both attend between the years of 1919 to 1924; The parents of the two children are listed as John KampesKa-Bear and Ida KampesKa; In 1923 Ida remarried, and her name changed to Taylor, she married a Edward Taylor in 1923, April 23rd. I remember Winfield more than my Great-Grandmother Alice, she passed away when I was about 3 or 4 years of age, she was nice to me, I know that much and she saved me, my mother delivered me at home because they didn't have a vehicle, my Great Grandmother, had severe arthritis so she was on crutches, she had to go for help, and she fell on her way so she had to crawl quite a ways before she could get help, so Arnold Renville Sr., and Katherine Necklace came to the rescue and saved me and my mother.....It's a wonderful little story isn't it. Thank you all so much, you are truly awesome people. Tamara, give me a call sometime, at the Tribal Historic Preservation Office. Thanks again. May you all be blessed with peace, prosperity and happiness. Charlotte

Ok, where do I began, I have so much information to share; First of all I don't have any ohter information on John-Bear/KampesKa but I am sending for his probate records and I'll go from there. I did however find some interesting information about Ida Renville??? So here it goes, ok my mother was Eleanore Goldie (Beaudreau-Married name) Keoke/Barse; Her mother was Doris (Keoke-Married name) KampesKa-Bear, Barse; Doris's mother was Alice KampesKa-Barse; Alice's parents were Ida (KampesKa-Bear) Renville and John KampesKa-Bear; Ida's parents were Victor Renville and Tatetokahewin (Mary Roy); Victor's parents were Gabriel Renville and Wina Tonka, he was the first born Child from Gabriel's first wife and first born son, wow, I didn't have a clue, isn't that just awesome, it gave me goose-bumps, I'm still in awe.... Tell me what you think... ;D

She works at the First Nations Outreach Center. The number there is 712-252-5902. What a small world this is!! We are glad we have been able to help you. I apologize if I may have given you wrong information on Ida Renville. The Tree I hae is from Ancesty.,com and Iscoured it for her name, buand I tried to contact the person who submitted thetreee, but failed. I can only assue that the submitter probably did n't have the information on her, or she is one of those listed as "Living Renville".

My sister sends all the great nieces and nephews a jar of Reindeer food(oatmeal mixed with glitter) and they know that on Christmas eve, they are to sprinkle it on the lawn outside so Santa will know where they are . This year we will have a houseful of the little ones,. I hop eit doesn't snow, or my sis will have a very gooey lawn come spring. ha ha
It brings to mind one Christmas, years past when my sis and i had gone out ot a Christmas Eve party, and came home @2 Am on Christmas Morning, feeling no pain. What do we see, but one of the nieces, who was @3 yrs old at the time and very weighty ,sleeping under the Chrisrtmas tree, waiting for Santa. On the dining room table, she and the other nieces and nephews had made a stack of sandwiches, and a pot of coffee on the kitchen stove for Santa, and some carrots for his reindeer. We cut off the top of one of the carrots and my sis took a couple little bites from it, then put the rest of the carrots in the frig, and between us we hauled her up the stairs to where she was to sleep with her parents. Then we staggered down the stairs and between us we ate the sandwiches and drank the coffee, cause by then we needed it. Then we put presents for them, from Santa under the tree, and put an apple, an orange, a candy cane, and a little toy in their stockings(at that time there were 7 of the little ones).. We were both groaning that day !!! But the looks on their little faces when they saw the presents under the tree, and in their stockings, the empty plate and coffeepot, and the "chewed carrot" on the dining room table, made our late night escapade as Santa's helpters worth it. I remember this when I look at the photos we took of that Christmas.
